Before you upload your new Facebook Page Cover Photo – Read this!

As I was reading through all the new info on the Facebook Pages Timeline that will be rolled out March 30th, 2012… I cam across something very interesting about the cover photos or cover images you can now put on your Facebook business page.

I say ‘very interesting’ because what they are saying you cannot do is a very common practice with Welcome Tabs or Welcome Landing Tabs on Facebook Business pages.

Here is an excerpt from Facebook’s info post on Cover Images for Pages:


Cover images must be at least 399 pixels wide (this is the minimum) and may not contain:

  • Price or purchase information, such as “40% off” or “Download it at our website”
  • Contact information, such as web address, email, mailing address or other information intended for your Page’s About section
  • References to user interface elements, such as Like or Share, or any other Facebook site features
  • Calls to action, such as “Get it now” or “Tell your friends”

All cover images are public, which means anyone visiting your Page will be able to see the image you choose.

Covers must not be false, deceptive or misleading, and must not infringe on third parties’ intellectual property.

You may not encourage or incentivize people to upload your cover image to their personal timelines.


It is very clear here:

NO Calls to Action!

NO “Like our Page”    

NO Optins  

NO pricing  

NO free downloads

So before you create your new cover image… make certain to follow these rules, and of course the always given rule of copyright ownership is in place as well.
