The Most Forgotten Element of any Blog Article

January 31, 2018 By Kathy Colaiacovo

If you skip this blog element, the search engines may skip you!

I have a short and sweet lesson for you today, one that will help your blog get better visibility online and recognition from the search engines too. This is so important for your website that you cannot miss it.

And, by the way, if you are thinking… “I don’t blog, so I’m not going to need to read this article of Kathy’s.” Think again.

In today’s global marketplace and the very online world we live in… If you have a business, you need a website, and if you have a website, you need search engines to find you… so clients can find you. The BEST way to get the search engines to find you is to BLOG! And I am a firm believer that everyone CAN Blog. You simply need to learn how to take your expertise from inside your head and write it down to share.

So, today’s challenge of the week is… Look into Blogging as part of your Marketing Toolkit.

And if after some reflection you are still reluctant and do not think blogging can help, then let’s talk! Book a call with me (it’s free) and we can have a 15 min chat during which time, I will explain to you HOW a blog will help your business.

Like I said, I am a firm believer in Blogging – it has brought me most of my website traffic in my 10 years in business as well as lots of leads and clients! Blogging helps my revenue stream, plain and simple.

The Most Forgotten Element of any Blog Article

(Yet it is one of the most important ones)

Whenever I review blogs for clients or students, inevitably I have to make note to them of one element missing.  Something they skipped.

If I were to keep track, this would be the #1 element that is always missing from blogs I review. Part of the reason is that most people want to get right into the meat of the article and this means skipping a key element.

It is having a subtitle to your blog article.

The subtitle is often overlooked as being a tactical element in the articles, but it is very important. AND even more important, it needs to be optimized for SEO as well.

When you write your article, you know you need a title, and you rarely forget this. But it is also very important to have a subtitle as well. This is the most skipped element in blogging. People think it is not important, but it truly is.

Here is the best method of blog writing to ensure you never miss this key element.

  1. never miss blog elementAs you write your article and put it together, always be thinking… “What could a subtitle be for this content?” Most often this comes after you have written most of the article.
  2. Once you have an idea you will want to ensure it also includes some of your keywords for this article. If you are unsure on how keywords help your blogging, there is a link below to another article explaining this.
  3. You want to limit this subtitle to no more than a sentence. So be sure to review and edit it so that it is short, sweet and includes the keywords.
  4. Once you have the subtitle, it becomes the first line in your blog as you format it on your website. Ideally, you want this also formatted to be the h2 style of text. This helps search engines recognize this line and they will pick up on the keywords used.

Take this list and print it out, so you start to think more and more about the subtitle when writing and include it in every blog.
