In today’s world of marketing your private practice online, blogging is MORE important than social media.
Yes, I said that … Me, someone who has built her entire business on social media. But the reality is, you cannot – and should not – rely on social media.
Yet, so many folks think that social media marketing is all you need to grow your business.
It could not be farther from the truth!
Understanding how social media works within your content marketing plan will help you get improved results from your marketing. But, social media is only one piece of your marketing plan.
A lot of the success I have seen in 14+ years in business, and the success of hundreds of clients and students, stems back to the Thrive Marketing Method I’ve taught them to do their marketing so that people can start finding them versus you chasing them!
This involves using one main article as the base for your email newsletter, blog and social media. This becomes that consistent new content you want to publish to both your blog and newsletter. And then pull out snippets to use on social media to get them to read the blog content as well as helping the search engines send people there too! This helps Amplify your Brand, Engage your Community and Convert them to leads and clients. (ACE that marketing!)
So, how do you get to this dream place of people reaching out to you?
It all comes back to connecting the dots of the online world and your business.
Here’s an example: more than 50% of my website traffic comes directly to my blog posts. They have “googled” something and ended up on my website, with most of these people landing on a blog post.
[AND at this time, 30% of my new clients/ students/community have found me first by getting directed to my website from an online search.]
These blogs posts are all published in a strategic way that give visitors options to connect with me, either by signing up for a lead magnet and getting on my email list, booking a consult, visiting a page where they can register for one of my programs/buy a product, or following me on social media.
Being able to make this happen comes back to understanding HOW blogging works with your website in the online marketing world.
If you don’t get this, you will spend more time on marketing and get less results than if you USE this understanding to change your marketing tactics.
As I say when I speak and present to groups in workshops and trainings, if you only take away one thing from this, you need to understand:
- Every blog post (or website page) you publish on your website is a new webpage on your site.
- A page you will fill with keyword rich content.*
- This content should match the main topic and keywords on your website. *
- Ideally you will also fill in the SEO elements when you publish this blog.*
- This all gives the search engines new pages and new content to index into their search engine directory.
- The search engines now can match your website pages to online searches being done by people.
- This is how your website and links to pages or blog posts can end up being shown as a result to people’s online searches.
*I teach all of this in the Thrive Marketing Academy.
This is how perfect strangers will find you. By putting content on your website that the search engines can index and then match that same content as a result to people who are searching for solutions online.
You Become The Solution!
Your website becomes a result that shows up in an online search.
If you understand this concept as presented in the 7 steps above, you will think about how blogs can help your marketing in ways you may have never considered.
Then what you want to do with your social media marketing is this …
Make sure that some of your social media content has a purpose of sending people to your blogs to get more information.
This is the role Social Media Plays with your Marketing Plans.
You must have some social media content that sends people to your website and the blogs.
Your blog posts have more details than you can put on most social media channels AND your blog has the ability for you to have action steps for people to take … like get more info by signing up for a lead magnet (or the other options).
PLUS, when you send people to your blog posts, you are increasing the traffic to your website. Something the search engines also want to see!
As soon as you approach blogging as a piece of your content marketing plan in a way that supports how the search engines will view your website, and you plan your social media content to start sending traffic there too, that’s when the dream results happen….
People finding you online!
You will begin to see more traffic coming into your blogs and this will mean more results in the long term.
(By the way, the other main role social media plays is allowing you the opportunity to connect and engage with people online. Building relationships that can also lead to more clients.)
To make your social media work to help your business it must be integrated to have a purpose of sending more traffic to your website.
Which means you lead with the content in the way of blogs published on your website and use social media to help improve your online visibility so people can find you and your business.
Let people see you as the solution to their problems!
