Most people are not happy with their email list. We all want more. I get that, I was there too… at least I was, before last year, when I made some drastic changes to my email marketing systems and setup.
On October 19th in 2015, about one year ago, I made a big change with my email marketing system, and then started being consistent with my marketing plan. This month as I did a review on my business, I realized what the numbers were actually saying.
268% and 204 %
When I reflected on the numbers and the stats and the changes… I realized since last October of last year, I have increased my email list by 268% and the net growth is actually 204%. Doubled.
The numbers were a big surprise when I analyzed them in this way. I always checked them every week, but I had not taken the time to really analyze them.
My system is working! My investments have paid off.
So… what did I do? A few key things and then consistent and persistent marketing.
The main thing I did was dump my Mailchimp account and moved to Aweber.
Why Aweber? Three reasons.
- There is no need to replicate an email to send to every list in your account. With Aweber you can make one email to send (ie. a newsletter) and tick what lists in the account should get it and what should not.
- No duplicate emails if someone is on more than one list. This means if you send an email to all subscribers, it will not send more than one copy of the email to a subscriber if they happened to be on two lists in the account (ie. If they had requested 2 different downloads and signed up to the different lists).
- The option to ‘turn off’ the double optin. This has been a key piece in the uptick in subscribers. When you have to have the double optin. Meaning the person must click the optin email to say “yes, send me emails” – even after they have actually entered their name and email to get the info. Yes, I know, the double optin does help keep your list clean. But with the advent of things like the promotions tab in gmail and spam filters, if someone gets the optin and never clicks it, then they are not considered a subscriber yet. And they can never get any of your emails. A wasted lead.
This move to Aweber for these 3 reasons got me started on the path to growth.
