A key element in a marketing funnel is your lead magnet.
Lead magnets are also known as freebies, free guides, eBooks, videos, mini courses… and the list goes on.
At this time of year, a lot of people will be reviewing and updating their marketing funnels. After all, having an effective marketing funnel helps you grow your business.
Lead Magnets are the base of your list building! They are the carrot you dangle on a stick to get people to give you their name and email to get that lead magnet.
But, most business owners create them thinking that they will share the info they include in their fabulous lead magnets and it will work magic! They have their lead magnets filled with tons of helpful information, but then they miss the mark when it comes to ensuring their lead magnet does its job.
Yep, lead magnets have a job.
Their main job is to get people on your email list. To become an email subscriber.

Then you have the opportunity to turn those leads into your community, filled with folks who begin to learn to know, like and trust the information you send them. (This is the information that you send them in the new content you send on a consistent basis… *ahem* read that to mean a newsletter!)
Your lead magnet is the path to building that relationship which can then lead to the next step: converting those leads into customers.
When I review lead magnets for members in my programs, one of the first things I review is whether or not they include the key elements every lead magnet needs, no matter what type of lead magnet you have!
These key elements help your lead magnet do its job! They are a must-have when it comes to creating your lead magnets. So let’s review what they are so that you can check and be sure your own lead magnet has these elements; and if not then you need to consider updating your lead magnet to include them.
5 Key Elements Every Lead Magnet Needs to Get More Clients
- A Catchy Title. You want something that attracts your Ideal Client. Something that typically hits home for them because it hits a pain point they have with a potential solution.
- Helpful and Useful Content. Whatever you include in the lead magnet needs to help your ideal client learn something of value.
- Your About Info. Make sure they get an idea of who you are and why they should listen to you.
- Brand it! Always, always always… include your brand, logo, name and company contact info (with clickable links) in it.
- Calls to Action. You must, must, must include the next steps for your new lead to take. What should they do next? Maybe it is to book a consult, to buy a course or program, to sign up for a service; but you have to tell them what to do next. Always.
Now… there are many ways to include these calls to action right in the lead magnet and also in how you followup with people who sign up for your lead magnet. They are the most important part of your lead magnet, the calls to action. They are what take that lead magnet from just being something you give to people to being a strategic lead magnet that has a purpose of converting people from being leads into customers.

So, your action step from today’s lesson is to go check out your lead magnet and make sure it includes all 5 of these elements.
Part of your marketing planning will include how to plan out the path for your lead magnet and where it leads to! The content you will publish online!
You need to be sure to include this all in your planning and when you do, you often find the results improve compared to what was happening before you had these 5 elements and the path planned out for your lead magnet.
And, I know how much of a pain doing your marketing plans can be, but honestly the time you put into this can be worth it in the end.
