Have you ever had a moment where you did a task that made you really clear on something that was unexpected or forgotten?
Or, I guess more like “shoved under the rug as not important” is a better way to describe my epiphany this week.
Kathy … with an epiphany? Oh yeah! It happens once in a while!
I have been asked to accept a nomination for a pretty cool award (can’t share yet) and in the process of gathering all the info for the nomination forms, I had to collect a bunch of information about me… media clippings.
No big deal, I can certainly put together some instances where I was in the paper or in an article online etc.
So, off I went to my good friend Google and entered my name… I remembered a few things but I got down to the nitty gritty and finished my list.
I needed a list of everything I found with a description of where it was, who covered it and what the situation was for the coverage. The result was quite shocking. My friend who is helping me with the nomination reviewed it too and her comment was “This is pretty impressive.”
I was thinking the same as I was looking over it. Wow, it was kind of amazing. Really amazing!
It also was a kick in the pants too!
This is good stuff! Successes! Successes to celebrate that I had really swept under the carpet.
This is something that everyone – especially entrepreneurs – should be doing.
Making a record of your media and press coverage – whatever it may be.
In the back of my mind I guess I had thought many pieces of it were just small things, but when added into one list… the view was kinda cool.
So as of today… I am starting my own document of Media and PR Coverage. I have made a promise to myself to ensure that I keep track of them and a celebrate them – when they happen and later too. Like when I do my own quarterly sit down. Or even on days when I feel down about my business. One look at a list like this and it can motivate you to get back on the horse and keep on striving to be the best you can.
Depending on what the Media coverage is – it also may be something you want to include on your website. Doing this with a description can also help boost your visibility online. The more you can include new content and with words that are relevant to your main list of keywords, the easier you make it for people to find you.
It can also be a neat way to share on your social networks successes, and at the same time ask your connections online to do the same. We all love a chance to market ourselves and when the door is open to it – people love to share. That is a big factor in how we network via our social media channels – sharing good news!
So, learn from me and my mistake… be sure to get a plan in place for your own Media and PR.
