How to use YouTube Playlists in your Marketing

February 12, 2019 By Kathy Colaiacovo

Video needs to be part of your online and digital marketing today.

As we discussed in a recent lesson, using YouTube as a place to store videos to use in your marketing is an easy way to get your video and your brilliance online. The videos can be on whatever topics your ideal client might be interested in and they give your audience a way to see you in a different light. To hear your voice, to see you “in person”, to see you “live”. It all adds to the depth of trust people develop in you.

As you build up your library of videos on YouTube you want to build these playlists as they not only help people view more of your videos, make them organized to explore them more, but you can now send people to a special link that has a list of videos on one topic.

The key thing to remember with this marketing tactic is that each YouTube playlist has their own unique URL. You will want to store these playlist URLs in a document somewhere and make a short link to them – or a nice redirect link – that you can use.

I use this one  www.pepperitmarketing.com/facebook-playlists to send people to my Facebook Playlist – which is this long link –  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNKJNsCyBh4&list=PLr2yMujXQtifhJO5JWx21nH4x0irBaxzE

PRO TIP >>  When I want to make nice ‘short links” like this, I use the “Quick Redirect” plugin on my website to create this link that I use when sharing this playlist.   You can read this article to learn how a redirect plugin like this works.

That special link www.pepperitmarketing.com/facebook-playlists I made will take you to that full playlist where you will see one main video and then the others in the list will be shown on the screen as well.    This is the type of link you want to use when marketing these playlists. You want Calls to Action that takes people to the exact playlist you mean.

As an example, this post was inspired by a call with my accountability partner. I was reviewing her blog and she had a Call to Action that said, “Click here to see more of my time management and productivity tips on YouTube”.  But guess what? Right… she was sending them right to her channel and assuming they could find the right videos. You always need to make sure what you say online means exactly what you said, when they click a link. Do not assume people will find the right videos, you send them right there. No thinking required.

What ways can you use  YouTube playlists to help with your marketing?

Playlists are great to use as Calls to Action (CTAs) in a variety of ways. In almost every case you will be sending them to the playlist to get more detailed / deeper info from you on a specific topic.

(Note: Make sure each video has a good description and link back to a lead magnet where people from the videos can get on your email list).

Here are 5 types of CTAs – Call to Action – you can use your YouTube Playlists for:

  1. As a CTA in blog posts
  2. In your emails/ newsletters
  3. When you are doing live videos and want people to get more on a specific lesson you are sharing
  4. On your Podcast or when a guest on a podcast too.
  5. When you are speaking at an event or in a presentation.

These are just a couple ways to use the playlists, but the biggest caution I would offer you is … Do not send them to a YouTube playlist if you are limited in how long you have them as an audience.

What do I mean by this?

When it is your email list (they already subscribe) and your blog that they follow already, that is great, but in certain situations where you only have them as an audience for a short time, and they are new to you it is different.   In these situations (for example, when you are a guest on a Podcast or you are speaking at an event you have limited time at and you want them to go directly to a Lead Generation page), be direct in your CTA and get them on your list right away. Not by sending them to a video and offering them lots of distractions before they see the opt-in form.

Are you looking for more ways to get marketing strategy and tips like this, but tailored for your business? And more importantly, in a way that doesn’t break the bank?

PS. Here are some more PRO Tips on YouTube Playlists:

  1. Do not make too many or it will be just as confusing as having no playlists.
  2. Pick topics that are more like your blog categories, keyword rich titles that are the main focus topics of your business.
  3. Choose Playlist titles that will make sense to viewers so they will explore.
  4. If you have a verified account you can make a series playlist, which is a way to show people that a set of videos should be viewed together.
