One of the biggest block of inbox items for many people are, in fact, email notifications from your social media profiles.
All of this is crap email in my books. Yep, I said Crap.
Why?
Because, when you are logged into your social network – the option to see these updates is already there. There is no need to get an email telling you so. (Unless, of course, you never visit your social media networks and only participate by these email notifications, which, honestly, if that is all your time spent on those networks – reacting to others via an email notification – then may I suggest you save yourself a lot of time and close your account? That is not being social – that is responding to other people. Being Social is a two-way street. It means you have to initiate some of the time!)
So, back to the notifications. If this is you and you are getting inundated with email notifications from your social networks, then either do what I recommended above OR stop the notifications!
Most of the social networks automatically set-up your account to receive notifications – that way they get you seeing more of the content and contact and try to keep you involved.
To edit the notifications, simply visit each social media platform, log-in and find the profile or account setting area. Look for the notifications or email notifications link and click that – once in there, review the options for getting emails. There may be a couple of important ones to keep. The rest you can uncheck, which will stop all those emails.
As soon as you do this, you will see a difference n your inbox…but don’t forget to check the notifications icon in these networks and make sure you are still paying attention to any contact. You might want to consider this…try initiating contact sometimes. You will see a big difference in how you network online once you are starting conversations with others.
Showing this interest will help more people online to see you and learn about what you do – all a piece of that social media marketing puzzle and a piece that will see better results for you!
