WordPress plugin keeps visitors on your website longer.
Recently a few people asked me about a functionality I have on my Blog.
At the bottom of each post there are other blogs listed – as images – with a heading that says:

It’s a plugin I have on my site called, “Contextual Related Posts”. It is very simple and easy to use and its purpose is to offer blog readers other article options right there as they read. By having this, I actually get visitors staying longer on my website as many will click and move around to read other articles.
It helps build that Know Like Trust factor as they are taking in more of your content and in the process building their confidence in you as someone with knowledge to share and offer.
Without this plugin some people might just read and leave. This pops a door in their line of sight that says, there is more to see, click here.
It is very easy to setup and use, simply follow the steps below. I also made a quick video to show you how to configure it. Depending on your WordPress site and theme and options, you may have to do some tweaking to make it work properly.
It is ideal to have several blogs posted already before using a related post plugin (yes, there are others, but this is my favourite).
Steps to Add Contextual Related Posts to your WordPress website.
Note: Always do a full backup before adding a new plugin and/ or checking with your web designer. You never know when a plugin may alter your site’s functionality.
- Login to your website and go to the Plugins area on the Dashboard
- Click, Add New Plugin
- Enter the words Contextual Related Posts in the Search box
- Find it in the list and click to Install and then Activate the Plugin
- Adjust the Settings (see video below)
- Check on a blog and see how it looks, reconfigure if needed
- Be sure you add a note on some blog posts to refer people to the other article below – a call to action to view them and read
Does it work for you? Well, take a look at your website traffic before and after installation for comparison. You should notice changes in visits and time spent on the website. It may take a few months for people to notice it. Be sure you are marketing your blogs online for people to read too.
Share them in your newsletters, and on social media. As I always say, only Kevin Costner can “Build it and they will come”, the rest of us have to do some marketing to get people there!
