Engaging people online can be hard, the best way is to review and improve your marketing content.
Last article, we discussed reasons that are stopping people from getting as much reach on social media as they did in the past. So many things can affect this, like algorithms, newsfeed preferences, when people are online, what their purpose is for being online… and the list goes on, mostly out of your control.
Taking steps to overcome this challenge will help you build your reach, reactions and connections online. When you do this, you can also build other aspects of your business; like website traffic, leads, prospect calls, and sales.
You goal – is probably similar to most people and businesses – you want to move people from being a website visitor, to a lead, to a client in your marketing and sales funnel. The issue is most people struggle with putting together content that is not plain old boring posts and posting it in a way that helps build engagement and reach followers and people in your online groups and communities.
What can you do to up level your social media content and presence?
There are seven things I like to share with my Insiders Club students and clients that can raise the bar when it comes to your online marketing content.
Here are seven factors to consider to help you get more engaging with your online community.
1. It’s Not About You. It’s about them. Post content that will be valuable to your ideal clients and your online community. It’s okay to have sales posts in your content, but NOT all sales! Remember my secret formula – 50% Business, 20% Sales and 30% Persona content. Mix it up and make it about them!
2. I’ll Share my World with You. One way to add variety to your online content that is not yours or about you, is to share information that might be of interest to your community. Share articles you read online, stories, blogs and as you post, ask for opinions or comments on the articles. Share your thoughts too as you share the link or article, what is appealing about it, why are you sharing? first. ie. When you share an article with 5 tips, add something like; I loved #2, what one resonates best with you? Then they have to read it to see and answer back.
3. Feelings. Add feeling to your posts, there is nothing more helpful and sometimes fun, than adding emotion and feelings to your posts. If you can incite emotion back, like loves, or smiley faces over likes this is great – these have more value than a simple like in the news feed algorithm from Facebook. Have fun with these!
4. Video Killed the Social Media Blahs. Videos can really ramp up the interest in your content and with that engagement. Whether it is a Facebook Live Video, an Instagram Video or ones you post on Twitter or LinkedIn, even GIFs they are all more than just simple text and will provide variety and interest for your community.
5. Shout, Shout, let it all out. These are the times where you want to talk. Talk to the people you have in your online community. This is one of the easiest tactics to bring more engagement and yet so many miss the boat. You HAVE to acknowledge things like comments, replies, retweets, loves, shares and more. You can even have a quick copy paste list of replies to use; this allows you to save a little time using phrases that are you. Write them in your own voice. And they can keep you using some variety. One past client of mine use great a lot. I gave him a list of similar words, so he could have some variety.
6. You Make me Feel like a Natural … Networker. Write the content in a natural way, the way you say it to someone face to face. This is critical when networking online. You want people to get the feeling when they do meet you in person that they know you already because you speak the way you write. Trust me I do, I stumble with words in person, and I am the Queen of typos – I match perfectly!!
7. This Time. Okay this time, after reading this list, you need to get serious. It is time now to get smart and schedule time for Networking Online. This is crucial to seeing success, and I will admit I have faltered with this lately. Making time – and setting a timer for that block of time, will ensure you spend some time engaging online with your community and talking to people, networking with them. So, I make this promise now that I am booking two 15 minutes slots every workday to do this very thing.
Who is with me on this last one? TIME?
Booking time for networking online. It is the BEST way to make sure you do this! And by booking time, you will save time.
