Today I want to talk about my #1 choice these days for an email marketing system… Convert Kit.
Convert Kit is an email marketing system we have been using with some clients for almost 2 years now. And it is fast becoming my favourite recommendation for students and clients.
[Update – ConvertKit now offers a free account, with up to 1000 subscribers. It is limited, tags only, no automation, but worth trying out!]
It can be considered an entry to mid-level system, but it has big player features, is a system that can grow with your business AND offers reasonable and competitive rates.
We’ve been moving clients over (or helping them open accounts) to Convert Kit from MailChimp, Constant Contact and Aweber this past year because it an easy to use system, with great features – and I cannot say enough about the tagging and segmenting options and for some is saving them money as well.
Here are some of the reasons I recommend Convert Kit.
- The BEST open rates I have ever seen! My clients and students are averaging 35% or more – sometimes closer to 42% as an average. This is phenomenal!
- Contact tag options and segmenting – this is the best I have seen in a system under $200 / month – easy to setup and do as well.
- Simple email templates for emails, broadcasts and follow up emails. They built their reputation on simple emails for good open rates. They do have new options for drag and drop building too.
- Price is very competitive. $15 a month until you have up to 300 subscribers (A nice entry level price) and then it competes well with others. They offer annual discounts too. Pricing may be lower depending on your subscribers too, once you get more than 1000 on your list. There is no free option, just a trial period, but free is not always fabulous.
- The ability to make one broadcast (newsletter) and indicate what contacts should get it based on tags. Making sure no one gets duplicate copies of the one newsletter. This seems simple but is huge – HUGE- for credibility of you, the sender. Mailchimp is a pain. To send a newsletter to multiple contacts/lists, means replicating the email, picking the new list and setting it up. Not a ton of time but still added time if you ask me.
- Very easy system to use for Forms setup, Email sequences and Automation. A bonus – Convert Kit connects nicely with Teachable and Kajabi if you have a school on these systems.
- Good customer service. They do not have a good chat option – generally it is an email reply, but they do offer the option to book a call to get questions answered so this is great for unique issues.
Now, I really, really recommend considering Convert Kit if you are using a FREE Mailchimp account right now. They have made so many changes, limiting what you can do, especially if you have lead magnets and want more. Their options are very limited now on free accounts.
If you have a free Mailchimp, you need to consider investing in a proper email marketing system, one that can help you with ease to grow your email list and build relationships with your online community.
